2007 Idaho Scholastic Cinco De Mayo Chess Tournament
(May 5, Hailey, ID)

Crosstable Flyer

Thirty-six (36) players attended the 2007 "Cinco de Mayo" Scholastic Chess Tournament on May 5, 2007 in Hailey, Idaho. This tournament was a sequel to the very successful Central Idaho Regional Scholastic Chess tournament held earlier in the year on March 3rd. Jeff Roland and Adam Porth co-directed the tournament that was co-sponsored by the ICA and Blaine County School District.

This tournament was very memorable and enjoyable for everyone. The "Cinco de Mayo" theme was very visible and noticable in the tournament room. We had a large Mexican flag ornimenting Board 1, and several piñatas for decoration as well as a real piñata loaded with candy that between the 4th and 5th round all the kids lined up blindfolded with a stick and had at it!

A large demonstration board was placed near Baord 1 and EVERY move was replayed as it occured very competently and accurately by Terry Gilton of Boise, Idaho. The use of the demonstration board in this way was very beneficial and instructive for the kids who sat in chairs designated for that purpose. All 5 rounds on Board 1 were of very high quality and exciting to watch.
